Printmaking
I create etchings with zinc, steel and copper plates using both traditional and "less toxic" techniques, including photo-etching with roll-on photo emulsion and photopolymer plates.
When working in a traditional studio, I etch with nitric or ferric chloride and create aquatints with roisin. In my home studio (mainly the kitchen!), I use a less toxic, salt-based solution of copper sulphate and create aquatints with icing sugar on BIG ground or car spray paint. I add colour in a variety of ways: inking the plate "à la poupée" or with different ink viscosities, bonding chine collé (thin Kozo paper) to the main paper or applying hand colouring to the printed image.
